Country House Wins the 145th Kentucky Derby

Maximum Security crossed the wire five lengths in front of the field but was disqualified for moving out into the field at top of lane. He was placed seventeenth.  Flavien Prat, Country House jockey, placed the objection. After a long review, over twenty minutes, Country House was moved to the winner’s circle.

Maximum Security set the fractions and finished in a final time of 2:03.93. But on his way, coming off the turn for home , he swung wide and the stewards ruled that he impeded his rivals. The moving off the rail by Maximum Security nearly caused War of Will and Long Range Toddy to clip heels.

Country House is the second highest longshot, 65/1, to win the Derby. Country House is Bill Mott first Derby winner.

This is the first time in Kentucky Derby history that a winner has been disqualified for interference.

The 2019 Kentucky Derby is for three-year-old at 11/4 miles on dirt for a $3 million purse, with $1.86 million going to the winner.
