Eight Rings makes his return Saturday in the Bachelor Stakes. He flashed speed last year and likes to be the pacesetter. He was the winner of the American Pharoah Stakes (G1) last fall. He finished fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. He has worked nine times this year—mostly at Santa Anita—following a short winter break. His final work was a five-furlong gate breeze in :59 April 17. The race lots of speed and he will be pressed for the lead. He may be able to hold on in the six furlong race to finish in the top three.
Long Weekend returned from his layoff in stride with a win in an allowance optional claimer at Sam Houston in February. He won in his next outing the Gazebo Stakes. He does his best running as pacesetter. He should be able to hold on in the six furlong race to finish in the top three.
Echo Town should take advantage of the possible speed duel. He won a maiden race Jan. 18 at six furlongs at Fair Grounds. After a third-place finish in his first attempt against winners at Oaklawn, he won in a local allowance March 13. He should be sitting behind the pace and start his move to the front around the turn for home. He should finish in the top two.
Ginobili is a graded-placed sprinter who finish a fifth in an April 5 Oaklawn allowance-level race after a slow break. He should run better and has the talent to finish on the board.
Sir Rick was the winner of the Feb. 23 Mine That Bird Stakes at Sunland Park. He adds blinkers after a last-place finish in the April 11 Oaklawn Stakes.
