Candy Tycoon broke his maiden on Jan. 25 going 1 1/16-mile distance. He needs to improve to have any chance against this field.

Makabim has two wins came in low-level claiming races, it is hard to endorse him. He won a $16,000 level claimer. He will not be a factor.

Masterday has a record for his three starts of 1-1-0. He finish second in an  optional claimer. He is not at the same level as the top horses in the field. He will not be a factor.

The Falcon has a record for his two races of 0-1-1. He likes to close on the front runners, but he is chasing a field of stakes horses in this race. He ran third in a Churchill Downs maiden claiming sprint and second in a Turfway Park maiden special weight. He is not at the same level as the top horses in the field. He will not be a factor.

Dennis’ Moment impressively broke his maiden in July. He won the Iroquois after stalking the pace. He raced poorly in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile after and stumbling at the start. But he lagged at the back and never showed any desire to pass a horse. He has worked like a Derby contender leading up to the race but how will handle his debut race. The speed in the race will allow him to sit close to the pace and try to out run the leaders turning for home. He should have enough talent to finish on the board.

As Seen On Tv has a four race record of 2-2-0. He finished second in the Mucho Macho Man Stakes on Jan. 4. to Chance It. He likes to stalk the pace and start his attack on the turn. He has to improve some over his last race to finish in the top two.

Country Grammer broke his maiden at Aqueduct against a quality field. This will be his third start and he is facing the top prospects in this field. He should finish mid-pack but will miss being on the board.

Gear Jockey is a maiden after 5 starts. However, he finished third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. He ran fifth in a Dec. 28 maiden race. He is not at the same level as the top horses in the field. He will not be a factor.

Liam’s Lucky Charm for his 7 starts is 3-1-2. He won the FTBOA Florida Sire Affirmed Stakes in August. In finished 10th in his most recent start at  1 1/8 miles in the second division of the Risen Star Stakes despite chasing a modest pace. He should finish in the top 6.

Shotski won the Remsen Stakes (G2) at Aqueduct last November. Davis Stakes (G3). Shotski finished second in the Withers Stakes (G3), but showed little down the lane. The shorter distance might help but the caliber of field will hurt his chances. He should finish in the top 6.

Ete Indien has a 4 race record of 2-1-0. He ran second in the Holy Bull Stakes (G3). He set the pace and has out kicked to the wire. He will need to have a clean break to gather an inside running position. He needs to set decent fractions and have enough left to hold off the stalkers down the lane. He has a chance of being in the top three.

Chance It won the Mucho Macho Man, which improved his 6 race record to 4-2-0). He had a bullet work going five-furlongs spin on Feb. 17. He will need to have a clean break to gather an inside running position. He should settle in with the stalkers. He will need lots of racing luck to finish on the board.

J’s Top Three Picks:

  • As Seen On Tv
  • Dennis’ Moment
  • Ete Indien
