Entries and J’s Picks for Six Stake Races at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 25

The fourth running of the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes Presented by Runhappy (G1) headlines the card on Jan. 25 card at Gulfstream Park featuring six graded stakes.

Race 7. Fred Hooper Stakes (G3)  

Gray Magician will be an imposing foe to 13 rivals in the Fred W. Hooper, a one-mile race for 4-year-olds and up. Gray Magician will make his 4-year-old debut in the one-turn Hooper following a productive 3-year-old season that included a start in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1). Although he finished far back in the Run for the Roses, Gray Magician came right back to finish second in the Indiana Derby (G3), win the Ellis Park Derby and finish second in the Smarty Jones Stakes (G3) before winning an optional claiming allowance at Keeneland.

The horses that should show improvement in against this filed are Rare Form Seven Trumpets and Epic Dreamer. The three should be the pace setters.

Race 8. La Prevoyante Stakes (G3)

Kelsey’s Cross will try the 1 1/2-mile distance for the first time in the Grade 3 La Prevoyante on Gulfstream’s Pegasus World Cup card. Lady Paneme has won a graded stakes win in the United States. She is the 3-1 program favorite in the 1 1/2-mile turf fixture for fillies and mares. Kelsey’s Cross needs to prove she can go the distance.

Race 9. Inside Information Stakes 

Spiced Perfection goes after her eighth stakes victory and second straight in the Inside Information over seven-furlongs. Last year she won both the Madison Stakes (G1) in the spring and Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (G2) in the fall at Keeneland. She also captured the Go for Wand Handicap (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack.

Race 11. Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational(G1T)

Sacred Life was bottled up turning for home and closed on the field in the Seabiscuit Handicap (G2T). Magic Wand has earnings near $3.5 million racing in six countries last year, beginning with a second in the inaugural running of this event. Zulu Alpha and Mo Forza may get the early lead by default in his first try against older stakes horses. Without Parole a late-rallying third in the TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1T) first time over from Europe, is a group 1 winner without Lasix but is winless since June 2018 and wants firmer footing than he will get here.
