Kentucky Downs Stakes Races on September 8

Kentucky Downs Saturday’s card has five big-money stakes, four of them graded stakes.

Race 6. Kentucky Downs Juvenile Turf Sprint Stakes. For two-year-old at 6 1/2 furlongs on turf. Purse $500,000.

Eleven 2-year-olds are entered for Kentucky Downs Juvenile Turf Sprint at 6 1/2 furlongs. The field has three fillies entered and they drew the outside gates. Moonlight Romance, a filly, is the 3-1 morning-line favorite. She broke her maiden at Belmont Park in May. Mae Never No, third in the Tremont at Saratoga, starts on the outside.

Race 7. Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf Stakes, (Grade III on Turf). For three-year old and up fillies and  mares at 1 mile on turf. Purse $500,000.

The Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf drew a field of 10. The 7-2 morning-line favorite, I’m Betty G, drew the rail for the 1-mile turf race. The wagering will have the majority of the field about equal in single-digit odds.

Race 8. Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint Stakes, (Grade III on Turf). For three-year old and up fillies and  mares at 6 ½ furlongs on turf. Purse $450,000.

Lull is the 2-1 favorite on the morning line for Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint. She won this race last year and the Exacta Systems Juvenile Fillies Stakes the year before. She ran third in graded stakes at Belmont Park and Woodbine. Ruby Notion won the Caress Stakes at Saratoga. She faces nine competitors in the 6 1/2-furlongs Ladies Sprint.

Race 9. Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint Stakes Presented by Coca-Cola, (Grade III on Turf). For three-year old and up at  6 1/2 furlongs on turf. Purse $500,000.

The Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint, 6 1/2 furlongs, has 11 entered. Undrafted makes his fifth appearance at Kentucky Downs, having finished third, second, fourth and third in the earlier efforts. He has not raced since his 18th finishing in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Race 10. Calumet Farm Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes, (Grade III on Turf). For three-year old and up at  1 1/2 miles on turf. Purse $750,000.

There is a full field of 12 plus four also-eligible for Calumet Farm Kentucky Turf Cup at  1 1/2 miles. The 7-2 morning-line favorite is Oscar Nominated. Oscar Nominated is looking to add to victories in the 2016 Dueling Grounds Derby and to repeat in this race. He’s one of four in the field trained by Mike Maker. After Oscar Nominated, there’s Multiplier, shipped in from California by trainer Peter Miller; Manitoulin, in from Saratoga; and another Maker trainee, Bigger Picture, also from Saratoga. Beyond them, stab the program and hope for the best.
