La Extrana Dama qualifies for Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf

La Extrana Dama, a four-year-old filly, out kicked the field to win 1 1/2 miles Gran Premio 25 de Mayo (Grade 1) at San Isidro by four lengths over Marcus Aurelius. She is the first horse to qualify for the 2018 $4 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf (Grade 1) through the international Breeders’ Cup Challenge races.

La Extrana Dama, trained by Jose Blanco and ridden by Eduardo Ortega, broke from Post 9 as the second betting choice behind Stivers, a 4-year-old male, the favorite. As the field turned for home in a tight group, La Extrana Dama out kicked the field and was able to pull away from the field. Her running time over the 1 1/2 miles turf course was 2:31.34. Must Go On finished third and Stivers finished fourth.

The Gram Premio 25 de Mayo was the third Breeders’ Cup Challenge race to be run in South America this year. On May 21, Nuevo Maestro (CHI) qualified for the Breeders’ Cup Mile by winning the Gran Premio Club Hipico Falabella in Santiago, Chile, On May 1, Sinfonia Fantastica (ARG) qualified for the for Longines Distaff by winning the Gran Premio Criadores at Palermo.
