If Flameawy returns to his form prior to the Derby he should be the top competitor in the Ohio Derby at Thistledown on June 23. He was recorded stakes wins on two different surfaces, recorded five victories at five separate tracks, and finished on the board in seven of nine starts. Flameaway is the 5-2 morning-line favorite, with PP 2. Flameaway established himself as Kentucky Derby top contender after a victory in the Sam F. Davis Stakes (Grade III), followed by second place finishes in the Lambholm South Tampa Bay Derby (Grade II) and Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (Grade II). Flameaway has shown early speed in the majority of his 10 starts, and he figures to have some company in in the first from Title Ready from PP 5. Other horses with early speed are Trigger Warning, PP6, and Core Beliefs, PP 10.

Lone Sailor chances of victory increase dramatically if a speed duel on the front takes place. Lone Sailor likes to run down the leaders turning for home. Lone Sailor has lost his last eight starts since breaking his maiden in September. However, he was just a neck short of victory in the Twinspires.com Louisiana Derby (Grade II) and put in a strong run in the Kentucky Derby to finish eight and finish fifth in the May 19 Preakness Stakes (Grade I).

Core Beliefs has never been out of the money in his five starts. He broke his maiden at Santa Anita Park in his third start. He finished third behind Justify and Bolt d’Oro in the Santa Anita Derby (Grade I1). In his last start, the Peter Pan Stakes (Grade III), he finished second after stumbling out of the gate and veering out down the lane while on the lead.
