Shoemaker Mile, a Breeders’ Cup “Win & You’re In’ Challenge qualifier, is named in honor of the legendary late Hall of Fame jockey Bill Shoemaker. Shoemaker Mile is the first Breeders’ Cup event to be run in North America in 2018. The Shoemaker Mile is a race for three-year-old and up on the turf at one mile at Santa Anita Park for a $400,000 purse.

Om set the pace until the final turn. Om and Heart to Heart dueled around the final turn the 3/8 pole. Hunt joined, Heart to Heart, and Om around the 3/8 Pole. The three of them ran together to the 1/4 pole. Hunt and Heart to Heart pulled away from Om during the last 1/4 mile of the Shoemaker Mile. Hunt was able to out kick Heart to Heart to the wire. Hunt won by neck. Next Shares finished third and Om finished fourth. Running Time: 1:34:07.
This was Hunt’s first race since winning the Seabiscuit Handicap at 1 1/16 miles on turf at Del Mar in November.
