Champion sprinter Roy H, who clinched an Eclipse Award with his triumph in the $1.5 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint last November at Del Mar Racetrack, returns to the scene of his greatest victory Saturday and races against ten formidable rivals. Roy H has continued to prosper this year, winning the Palos Verdes at Santa Anita in February and then running a narrowly-beaten third behind Mind Your Biscuits in the Dubai Golden Shaheen March 31 at Meydan.

American Anthem has won both starts as the odds-on favorite this year, though his last win in the San Carlos (Grade II) was only by a head over St. Joe Bay.

American Pastime ran fourth in the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Del Mar last fall, which was his second graded stakes appearance. He had preceded that effort with a second-level allowance win over this track and a sharp second in the Gallant Bob (G3) at Parx. This is his first start in 2018.

Ransom the Moon is back to defend his title, but he’s gone winless in four starts since last year’s race. He ran fifth in last race the Runhappy Metropolitan Handicap (Grade I) at Belmont Park.

Edwards Going Left won the California Cup Sprint two back and placed behind City of Light in the Malibu (Grade 1) and Triple Bend (Grade I) in two of his last three starts.

Stallwalkin’ Dude is a two-time Grade III winner. His last stakes win came in the 2017 Fall Highweight Handicap (Grade III) at Aqueduct in November.

Touching Rainbows is a four-time allowance winner.

St. Joe Bay ran second to American Anthem in the June 23 San Carlos Stakes (Grade II). He was claimed for $62,500 in May at Santa Anita.

Edwards Going Left is a multiple California-bred stakes. He finished third in the March 10 Triple Bend Stakes (Grade I) last time out.

Annie’s Candy and Tribal Storm are looking for their first graded stakes win. They ran first and second, respectively, in their last race  the Oak Tree Sprint Stakes at Pleasanton on July 4th.

Stone Hands is two-time allowance winner.

Our Top Three Picks:

  • Roy H
  • American Anthem
  • Edwards Going Left
