Review of Clement L. Hirsch Stakes, Grade I, at Del Mar on July 29

The Clement L. Hirsch is a “Win and You’re In” qualifier for the $2 million Longines Distaff in November at Churchill Downs.

Eclipse Award and multiple Grade I stakes winner Unique Bella heads a field of six entered in the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes, Grade I, going 1 1/16-miles on the dirt for older fillies and mares.

Unique Bella won five of six starts in 2017 and is two-for-three in 2018 with the most recent victory being a 2 1/4 length win in the Beholder Mile (Grade I) at Santa Anita on June 2nd.  She should be stalking the leaders into the final turn and take command down the stretch. She should be three-for-four in 2018 after the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes.

La Force was second in the Beholder Mile (Grade I) at Santa Anita on June 2nd. She should be on the board.

Bernina Star has two starts in 2018. She ran second in the Santa Lucia Stakes at Santa Anita on June 22nd. She won her other race an Allowance Optional Claiming race at Santa Anita on May 25th. She likes to come off the pace. She may find a spot on the board.

Turkish Tabby is winless in six races in 2018. Her best finish in 2018 was a second-place finish in an Allowance race at Golden Gate on April 13th. She finished fifth in her last race the Great Lady Stakes, Grade II, at Los Alamitos on July 7th. She will have to improve to be on the board.

Shenandoah Queen has five starts in 2018. Her best finish in 2018 was a second-place finish in the Adoration Stakes, Grade III, at Santa Anita on May 6th. She should be part of the pace group for the first half mile. She will struggle to finish fourth or fifth.

Yuvetsi has won two races out of five starts in 2018. Her record for 2018 is 2-1-2 with earnings of $109,580. She won her last race the Santa Lucia Stakes at Santa Anita on June 22nd. She should be the pace setter.  She should be on the board.
