Review of Fleur de Lis Handicap,(G2), at Churchill Downs on June 15

The Fleur de Lis winner will be awarded a “Win and You’re In” spot toward the Nov. 2 Breeders’ Cup Distaff.


Race 7. Fleur de Lis Handicap,(G2). For three-year-old and up fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles on dirt. Purse $250,000.

Skeptic was an allowance winner at Churchill Downs coming back from a 3-year-old season in which she won the Monmouth Oaks (G3). The top three contenders here have a significant class advantage over her.  

She’s A Julie won the Bayakoa (G3) at Oaklawn Park and the La Troienne (G1) at Churchill. She has a record over Churchill dirt for 5 starts of 3-1-0.  She should continue her success at Churchill with a top two finish. 

Elate last three race against G1 and G2 competition she finished in top two. Her recent races have been against the top fillies and mares in training.  She’s a Julie is a multiple Grade 1 winner. The distance should increase her chances of being on the board. 

Go Google Yourself this year has won two allowance race wins and a second in a Grade 2 at three tracks. She is moving up in class against the top three in this field. She has a chance of being in the top five.

Blue Prize has only missed being on the board twice in her career. She is a   multiple graded stakes winner. In October, she won Keeneland’s Spinster (G1) plus the 2018 Fleur de Lis. She finish fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff over this surface. Blue Prize returned to be third off the layoff behind She’s a Julie in the La Troienne. She should be in the top three at the wire.

Auspicious Babe is winless in 2019 after three tries in allowance races and an eighth-place finish in the Bayakoa. Her record at Churchill for 6 starts is  3-1-1. She should not be a factor.
