City of Light won the Malibu Stakes (G1) and Triple Bend Stakes (G1), both run at the Forego’s seven-furlong distance. He finished third in the May 26 Gold Cup at Santa Anita Stakes (G1). He won the Oaklawn Handicap (G2) going 1 1/8 miles at Oaklawn Park. City of Light is 2-for-3 with a second at 7 furlongs (both wins Grade I). He ran third to Accelerate in May.
Limousine Liberal has finished on the board in 11 consecutive races. He won the July 7 Belmont Sprint Championship Stakes (G2) at seven furlongs. He returns to Saratoga for the first time since last year’s third-place finish in the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap (G1). Jose Ortiz.
Warrior’s Club could be poised for a big effort after two solid runs in sprints. He ran second to Imperial Hint in the July 28 Vanderbilt and placed third one start prior in a Churchill Downs stakes race.
Warrior’s Club won his first graded stakes this year when he ran down Limousine Liberal to take the April 7 Commonwealth Stakes (G3) at Keeneland.
No Dozing who won a July 21 allowance/optional claimer going seven furlongs at Saratoga. He beat a Forego rival, Awesome Slew, in that race. The win over a fast track at Saratoga marked No Dozing’s first race off an eight-month layoff. He makes his first graded stakes appearance since the 2017 H. Allen Jerkens Stakes (G1).
Awesome Slew is a Grade III winner. Last year he ran third in the Las Vegas Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Del Mar. He started 2018 off with a second in the April 7 Carter Handicap (G1) at Aqueduct Racetrack. He was third in the May 5 Churchill Downs Stakes Presented by Twinspires.com (G2), both at the Forego distance of seven furlongs. After a disappointing eighth in the June 9 Runhappy Metropolitan Handicap (G1) at a mile, Casse turned Awesome Slew back to seven furlongs in the talent-laden July 21 optional claimer at Saratoga in which he ran third. Awesome Slew has finished on the board in all seven of his previous starts at the Forego distance, going 1-4-2.
Whitmore comes off back-to-back runner-up efforts by a neck to Imperial Hint in the June 8 True North Stakes (G2) and coming up short to Limousine Liberal in the Belmont Sprint. He started 2018 with wins in the March 10 Hot Springs Stakes and the April 14 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap (G3) at Oaklawn Park.
C Z Rocket won his first stakes in the June 30 Kelly’s Landing Overnight Stakes at Churchill, where he registered a four-length score. He ran sixth in the Malibu. He ran third in a June 1 optional claimer.
Heartwood won the Aug. 4 Senator Robert C. Byrd Memorial Stakes at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack & Resort.
