Review of King Edward Stakes at Woodbine

King Edward Stakes is a Grade II for three -year-old and up colts and geldings at 1 mile on turf. Purse $175,000. Permian won the 2017 King Edward Stakes.

Tower of Texas will be making his fourth consecutive appearance in the King Edward. He won the King Edward fashion in 2015 and then finishing third in 3016 and 2017. He won the Colonel Bradley Handicap over 1 1/16 miles on turf at the Fair Grounds this winter and then finished second to Caribou Club in the Grade II Connaught Cup.

Shakhimat has won Grade III turf stakes at one mile and at 1 1/16 miles on the front end. He has run poorly in his three most recent outings. He finished ninth in his most recent ace was the Opening Verse Overnight Stakes at Churchill Downs on May 3rd. He has not been on the board in his three 2018 starts.

Ring Weekend is a multiple Grade Stakes winner but recently had poor performances in an Allowance Optional Claiming race at Delaware Park on June 7th and in the Henry S. Clark Stakes on April 21st. His only win in 2018 was an Allowance Optional Claiming race at Gulfstream Park on February 11th. He has won eight races from his 32 starts.

First Premio has recorded three wins in Allowance Optional Claiming races. He won his last race an Allowance Optional Claiming race at Churchill Downs on May 28th.He finished second in a pair of listed stakes on turf this year.

Conquest Panthera finished third in most recent race the Grade II Connaught Cup at Woodbine on June 2nd. His prior race he finished second in the Elusive Quality Stakes at Belmont Park on April 28th. He has started 17 times and has 4 first, 1 second and 1 third.

Caribou Club won the Connaught Cup by 1 1/2 lengths. He had won the Henry B. Clark Stakes at one mile of Laurel’s turf course on

Delta Prince will be opening his 2018 racing season in the King Edward Stakes. He has never won a Graded Stakes. His last race was on September 4, 2017 in Saratoga’s Grade II Bernard Baruch a 1 1/16 miles on turf . He finished third, beaten 2 1/2 lengths by the ┬áHeart to Heart.

Hollywood Hideaway ran sixth in the 2017 Connaught Cup. He has started 15 times and has three wins. In his 2018 debut he finished seventh in an Allowance Optional Claiming race at Woodbine on June 3rd.
