The 59th running of the Red Smith, for 3-year-olds and up going 1 3/8 miles on the inner turf, will see Bigger Picture looking capture his second title in the race after capturing the 2016 edition by 1 1/4 lengths. He come into the race after finishing third in the Sycamore Stakes (Grade III on T) at Keeneland on October 18. He has won twice at Aqueduct and three times at this distance.

Soglio returns to stakes company after defeating allowance company at Keeneland on October 19. He his first stakes win after finishing third in the July 7 Stars and Stripes Stakes (GIIIT) and a third in the Calumet Farm Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes (GIIIT) on September 8. Soglio is very consistent, eight trifecta finishes in last 10 starts, and was only a neck behind Bigger Picture in the Kentucky Downs Turf Cup.

Zulu Alpha has won three of his past four starts and a only beaten in his only defeat in his last four starts. His excellent tactical speed was on full display in the Sycamore Stakes at Keeneland last time, and he is a strong win contender in his current form.

Call Provision ran second to Spring Quality in last year’s Red Smith. He Provision will be making his first graded stakes appearance since running fourth in the Man o’ War Stakes (GIT) at Belmont Park on May 12. He ran second in the John’s Call Stakes at 1 5/8 miles on August 22 at Saratoga Race Course. Call Provision was disqualified to fourth in that race. Call Provision ran out of ground at a mile and an eighth last time. He won his first three turf outings at Aqueduct, and in his only other local turf try, he rallied to miss by a half-length in the 2017 renewal of the Red Smith. He has competed at this distance eight times and was part of the exacta in seven of those races, with four wins.

Focus Group in his first graded stakes ran third in the Pattison Canadian International Stakes (GIT) October 13 at Woodbine.

Galope Americano who won the Group 1 Derby Paulista in November 2017 in  Brazil. He ran fifth in his first appearance in the United States against Optional Claimers on October 19 at Belmont.

Village King won the group 1 Jockey Club in October 2017 and ran third in the Group 1 Carlos Pellegrini Internacional at San Isidro in Argentina before arriving in the United States. He ran fourth in his US debut on Sept. 14 at Churchill Downs. He finished in his last race on October 19 at Belmont.
