Review of Zenyatta Stakes, Grade I, at Santa Anita on Sept. 30

Race 5. Zenyatta Stakes, Grade I. For three year old and up fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on dirt. Purse $300,000.

Zenyatta Stakes is a Breeders’ Cup Challenge race “Win and You’re In” qualifying race for a berth in Breeders’ Cup Longines Distaff.

Abel Tasman is a six-time Grade 1 winner, She finished fourth in her 2018 debut the La Troiene Stakes at Churchill Downs. She won the Ogden Phipps Stakes June 9 at Belmont Park. She recently won the Personal Ensign at Saratoga on August 25. She has the speed to gate -to -wire against this field. She should increase her number of wins to nine on Sunday.

Vale Dori is a Group 1 winner in her native Argentina. at age three. She won the  Adoration Stakes, Grade III, at Santa Anita in May of 2017. She won the Grade 1 Santa Margarita, Grade I, in March of 2017. She has talent, but her ability is not at the same level as her stablemate Abel Tasman. She has five wins from 10 starts at Santa Anita. Her career record for twenty starts is 20-9-6-2 overall with earnings of $1,185,567.

La Force  ran second behind Unique Bella in the Grade 1 Clement Hirsch Stakes, Grade I, at 1 1/16 miles at Del Mar on July 29.  She ran second in the Beholder Mile , Grade I, at Santa Anita on June 2. She has not won a graded stakes but has been very competitive in her six starts in 2018.  She like to come from off the pace and waits till top off stretch to make her kick.

Shenandoah Queen won the Tranquility Lake Stakes at Del Mar on August 24. Her best finish in a 2018 graded stake was finishing second in the Adoration Stakes at Santa Anita on May 6. Her 2018 record for seven starts is 1-1-0.

Lemoona last race was in the Torrey Pines Stakes (Grade III) in August, where she finished fifth. She has won allowance races.

Fool’s Paradise ran in eighth in the Aug. 18 Del Mar Oaks Presented by The Jockey Club (Grade I on Turf) on August 18. She has won allowance races. Her career record  for 20 starts is 6-2-2.
