Ruffian Stakes,(GII), at Belmont Park on May 5, 2019

The race is named in honor of the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame filly, Ruffian.

It was first run in 1976 as the Ruffian Stakes and was run as the Ruffian Handicap from 1977 until 2009. In 2010 and 2011 it was run as the Ruffian Invitational Handicap before returning to the Ruffian Handicap for the 2013 running. It became the Ruffian Stakes again in 2014.

Come Dancing’s into the one-mile Ruffian for older fillies and mares at Belmont Park off a career-best effort in which she won by 7 3/4-length in the Distaff Handicap (G3). Racing for the first time in four months, she took the early lead in the seven-furlong stakes and never looked back, crossing the wire in 1:22.31 in the April 5 stakes. Her performance earned a stellar Equibase speed figure of 120—a 14-point improvement off her previous best. That 106 figure came in Come Dancing’s prior race, the Go For Wand Stakes (G3) when she lost by a neck. She is a winner of five of nine career starts and has earnings of $339,200.

Pacific Wind will return to defend her title in the Ruffian while making her first start of 2019. She finished third in her last race. Pacific Wind has four wins in 13 starts and has earned $450,545.

Sun Studio won an allowance race at Aqueduct. Sun Studio. She has started five times and has two wins to her credit. She was earning of $77,000. She has never raced in a graded stakes.

Pink Sands was fourth in the Inside Information Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park. She won an allowance race at Gulfstream on February 25. She has three wins from 11 starts. She has earnings of $178,080.

Frostie Anne is coming off a fourth place finish in the Top Flight Invitational.  In 2019, she has won an allowance race and the Biogio’s Rose Stakes. Her career stats for 38 starts is 15-4-3 with earnings of $568,443.
