Seven Stakes Races on Black-Eyed Susan Day

This year there are seven stake races on Black-Eyed Susan Stakes Day on Friday, May 18th, at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.

The ADENA SPRINGS MISS PREAKNESS STAKES, Grade 3. For three- year- old fillies at 6 Furlongs on the dirt. Purse $150,000.

The SKIPAT STAKES. For three-year-olds and up fillies and mares at 6 Furlongs on the dirt. Purse $100,000.

The PIMLICO SPECIAL STAKES, Grade 3. For three- year- olds and up at 1 3/16 Miles on the dirt. Purse $300,000.

Eighteen Pimlico Special winners have gone on to win a Championship for Horse of the Year or an Eclipse Award as the best horse in their divisions. The latest was Invasor in 2006; others include Mineshaft, Real Quiet, Cigar, Skip Away, Cigar, Criminal Type, Blushing John, Capot, Citation, Assault, Armed, Tom Fool, Twilight Tear, Whirlaway, Challedon, Seabiscuit, War Admiral and Market Wise.  The Pimlico track record for ​1 3/16 miles is held by Farma Way who ran the distance in 1:52 2/5 while capturing the 1991 Pimlico Special.

The HILLTOP STAKES. For three-year-olds fillies at 1 Mile on the turf. Purse $100,000.

The ALLAIRE DUPONT DISTAFF STAKES. For three- year- olds and upward fillies and mares at 1 1/8 Miles on the dirt. Purse $150,000.

The JIM McKAY TURF SPRINT. For three-year-olds and up at 5 Furlongs on the turf. Purse $100,000.

The BLACK-EYED SUSAN STAKES, Grade 2. For three- year- old fillies at 1 1/8 Miles on the dirt. Purse $250,000.
